
Mitsotakis Backs Tariff Pause
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed satisfaction over U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent decision to temporarily suspend high tariffs on multiple countries—excluding China. Speaking during a visit to Oinofyta on Thursday, Mitsotakis urged the EU to use this opportunity to pursue a mutually beneficial trade deal with the U.S., potentially aiming for zero tariffs to boost transatlantic trade, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian
While visiting the Central Greece Industries Association, the PM emphasized his government’s support for industry, noting its role in creating well-paid jobs and reducing unemployment. He highlighted the need to align industrial demands with workforce skills and to increase investment in manufacturing.
Later, Mitsotakis toured Intertrade Hellas, Greece’s top paper product manufacturer, praising its growth in production, exports, and wages. He noted that rising wages and falling unemployment are central goals of his administration. The company is investing €156 million—the largest in Europe’s paper sector—expected to eliminate Greece’s trade deficit in paper products for the first time in four decades.
The prime minister concluded his tour in Schimatari, where he met with a young disabled basketball player and discussed the importance of sports and inclusion.
