The National Aviation and Railway Accidents and Transportation Safety Investigation Agency (HARSIA) has decided to remove all references to the fireball in its report on the February 2023 Tempi rail crash. The move follows objections from Ghent and Pisa universities regarding the inclusion of the fireball hypothesis, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

HARSIA President Christos Papadimitriou announced on Monday that the agency would delete the section related to the fireball after receiving feedback from the universities, which clarified they had not conducted their own simulations for the investigation.

The removal comes after a request from Papadimitriou to delay the report until the University of Lausanne released its own study. Despite objections, some members of the investigation committee insisted on including the fireball conclusion, which was based on informal discussions rather than official research.

Papadimitriou emphasized that HARSIA remains committed to its scientific integrity, citing 17 safety recommendations in the report, with the fireball hypothesis left unresolved. He also revealed he had received threats related to the investigation but remains resolute in continuing the work.
