UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy has called for normalisation and lasting peace between Kosovo and Serbia

During his official visit to Kosovo, he said he hopes the next government will have a strong commitment to dialogue. British Chief Diplomat David Lammy, in a press conference after meeting with President Vjosa Osmani, said that his country is a staunch supporter of Kosovo and a key partner. Meanwhile, he underlined the need for a new government to be formed in Kosovo as soon as possible, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

"We want sustainable and peaceful normalisation between Kosovo and Serbia. The UK is undoubtedly a major contributor to KFOR, I visited KFOR the last time I was there and I will visit again. It is essential for your security and I hope that the next government will address the needs of all citizens, including progress in the integration of Kosovo Serbs and engagement in the European Union-led dialogue", Lammy stressed.

On the other hand, the host of the meeting, President Vjosa Osmani, said that Kosovo is a constructive party in the dialogue and committed to peace and stability, despite obstructions and provocations by Serbia.

Regarding this, Vjosa Osmani said that it is necessary for Serbia to hold accountable the perpetrators of the act of Serbian aggression in September 2023.

"Kosovo remains a constructive and committed party to peace and stability, despite the fact that we are constantly faced with obstructions and provocations by Serbia, including the successive attacks that began years ago and are still continuing. It is necessary for Serbia to be accountable and hold the perpetrators accountable, but unfortunately we are not seeing any movement in this direction. Neither regarding the act of aggression of September 2023 nor regarding the attack by NATO soldiers, nor regarding the recent actions that have occurred in the north of the country," Osmani stressed.

In addition, the country's first lady announced that she has proposed the strategic deepening of cooperation between Kosovo and the United Kingdom, in the fields of defense and economy.

The advancement of the strategic partnership between the two countries was also mentioned by British Secretary, David Lammy, especially in the fields of defense, technology, innovation and clean energy.

He also emphasized the need for Kosovo to progress on its Euro-Atlantic path.

The British chief diplomat arrived in Pristina on Tuesday evening, where he met with the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, and several members of his cabinet.

He is on an official visit to Kosovo, as part of a tour of the Western Balkans, where he will also visit other regional countries.
