Erdogan: Türkiye Pushing for Ceasefire to End Gaza Massacres

Politics

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Saturday that Türkiye is intensifying its diplomatic efforts to reinstate a ceasefire and halt the killings in Gaza ahead of Eid al-Fitr. Speaking at an iftar dinner in Istanbul, Erdogan condemned the international community’s silence over the deaths of Palestinian children, calling out Western governments for their indifference to the brutality in Gaza, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

He emphasized that Türkiye will continue to defend the Palestinian cause, expressing hope that Gaza’s oppression, like Syria's, will one day come to an end.

Since the surprise Israeli airstrikes on Gaza earlier this week, over 700 Palestinians have been killed and more than 1,000 injured, breaking a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that lasted until January. Since October 2023, the ongoing Israeli military offensive has claimed nearly 50,000 Palestinian lives, mostly women and children, and left over 112,000 injured.

In response to these atrocities, Israel faces war crime charges at the International Criminal Court and a genocide case at the International Court of Justice.
