Moldova Enhances Diplomatic Services with New Biometric Devices

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) and the Public Services Agency (ASP) have received 40 modern biometric data collection devices to improve services at Moldova's diplomatic missions and consular offices, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

These new devices will streamline the issuance of passports and electronic identity cards, enabling citizens to access online public services with a qualified electronic signature. MAE Secretary-General Mihai Mîțu highlighted that the modernization of consular services is a key priority, aiming to reduce document processing times and enhance access for Moldovans abroad.

ASP Director Mircea Eșanu added that the upgrade is part of a broader initiative to digitize and expedite public services, cutting down waiting times for document requests. Starting March 31, 2025, Moldovan citizens abroad will be able to apply for the new electronic identity card, which meets EU standards and includes a qualified electronic signature for online public service access.

The MAE also plans to increase consular staff, expand the consular network in regions with large Moldovan communities, and further digitalize services with tools like MPower, MDelivery, and MPay terminals for quicker, more efficient service.
