Greece Battles Surge in Wildfires as Authorities Plan Emergency Measures

Athens, Greece – Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Vassilis Kikilias will chair an emergency coordination meeting on Tuesday at 09:30 amid a surge in wildfires fueled by dry conditions and strong winds, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

Since Saturday, over 60 fires have been reported daily, many sparked by farmers burning fields. Rising temperatures and gale-force winds in the coming days are expected to worsen the situation.

Authorities are set to announce a one-week ban on field burning in high-risk areas starting Tuesday. The meeting will include officials from the Fire Department, Hellenic Police, Armed Forces, forestry services, and civil protection, along with regional governors.
