
Mitsotakis and Christodoulides Discuss Cyprus Issue and EU Defence Ahead of Geneva Meeting
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides met in Athens on Saturday to discuss developments in the Cyprus issue ahead of the upcoming five-party meeting in Geneva, as well as the need for greater EU investment in defence, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian
Mitsotakis highlighted the recent Special European Council decisions, which he said aligned with Greece’s stance on increasing defence investments and strengthening EU border protection. He also commended Christodoulides' efforts to keep dialogue on the Cyprus issue alive, reaffirming Greece's support for a fair and viable solution.
Christodoulides emphasized that Nicosia aims to resume talks from where they left off in 2017, within the agreed EU framework. He also underscored the Greek-Cypriot push for stronger EU defence, noting the summit’s recognition of security threats in the Eastern Mediterranean beyond Ukraine.
