Greek Parliament Debate on Tempi Train Disaster and Potential Censure Motion

On Wednesday, political attention is centered on the Greek Parliament as party leaders debate the Tempi train disaster, following requests from SYRIZA and the Communist Party (KKE), CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will open the session, followed by KKE General Secretary Dimitris Koutsoubas and SYRIZA leader Sokratis Famellos. PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis is expected to submit a motion of censure against the government, citing findings from the National Organization for Investigating Air and Rail Accidents (EODASAAM).

Androulakis has urged opposition parties to back the motion, which requires 50 MP signatures—PASOK currently holds 32 seats. According to the Constitution, the debate on the motion must begin within two days unless the government requests an immediate start, and it cannot exceed three days.

A vote will follow the debate, with a potential 48-hour delay if requested by the government. The motion passes only with an absolute majority in Parliament.
