Türkiye Calls for Realistic Approach to Ukraine’s NATO Bid
Türkiye on Monday stressed the need for a pragmatic approach to Ukraine’s NATO aspirations, emphasizing broader security concerns, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reiterated Türkiye’s support for Ukraine’s membership but urged realism. "We are in favor of Ukraine joining NATO—this is our official position. However, we must be realistic," he told Bloomberg Television.
When asked about potential shifts in U.S. policy, Fidan said he saw no significant change in Washington’s stance.
He highlighted ongoing discussions between Türkiye, European partners, and Ukraine, noting that Kyiv seeks NATO membership as a security guarantee. "Preventing the war from re-emerging is a key issue in negotiations," he added, suggesting alternatives such as an international security coalition.
