
Greek PM Mitsotakis Announces Debt Relief Plan for Farmers and Cooperatives
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with the Board of Directors of the National Union of Agricultural Cooperatives on Thursday at the Maximos Mansion to discuss a new bill aimed at addressing bad loans in the agricultural sector, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian
"We are submitting to Parliament the new framework for regulating bad loans of farmers and agricultural cooperatives. This is a major relief for longstanding issues affecting hundreds of cooperatives and over 20,000 farmers," Mitsotakis stated.
The bill, developed in collaboration with the Bank of Greece, will be introduced in Parliament next week. It includes measures such as partial debt write-offs, extended repayment schedules, and reduced interest rates. Additionally, specialized managers with sector expertise will oversee agricultural loans to ensure effective implementation.
