Greece Expands Eco-Friendly Public Transport Fleet in Athens

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving public transport during a visit to the Road Transport (OSY) depot in Rentis on Friday. Accompanied by Infrastructure and Transport Minister Christos Staikouras and Deputy Minister Vassilis Oikonomou, he inspected new electric and natural gas buses, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

OSY CEO Stefanos Agiasoglou briefed Mitsotakis on the 100 new nine-meter electric buses now in service, alongside 278 anti-pollution technology buses already operating in Attica. By the end of February, an additional 405 vehicles will be added, contributing to a total of 950 new buses by 2025.

Meanwhile, the government has launched an international tender for 125 more electric buses, set for completion by summer 2026 using European funds. Mitsotakis also observed advanced safety features in the new fleet, including a breathalyzer system that prevents buses from starting if the driver tests positive.
