US Warns of Sanctions, Possible Military Action if Russia Refuses Ukraine Peace Deal

Politics

US Vice President JD Vance has warned that Washington could impose sanctions and even take military action if Russian President Vladimir Putin refuses to negotiate a peace deal ensuring Ukraine’s long-term independence, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

Speaking to The Wall Street Journal on Thursday, Vance stated that “all options remain on the table,” including potential US troop deployment, if Moscow fails to engage in talks in good faith. His remarks come after President Donald Trump announced the start of negotiations with Putin to end the war in Ukraine.

Vance, set to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Munich Security Conference on Friday, suggested the final agreement could be unexpected. “I think there is a deal that is going to shock a lot of people,” he said.

His comments follow US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s statement that Ukraine is unlikely to regain its lost territories or join NATO through negotiations, signaling a shift in US priorities away from European and Ukrainian security.
