Greece Pledges Support for Syria’s Recovery and Stability

Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis reaffirmed Greece’s commitment to supporting Syria’s recovery during the International Conference on Syria. He emphasized that a stable and prosperous Syria is essential for both regional and global security, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

Gerapetritis outlined Greece’s vision for Syria, focusing on four key pillars: the gradual lifting of sanctions, building resilient institutions, reconstruction, and the return of human resources. He stressed that sanctions should not harm civilians and should be lifted progressively, contingent on compliance with international commitments.

The minister also underscored the need for strong institutions that uphold international law, good governance, and non-discrimination. He called for a dedicated reconstruction fund to rebuild essential infrastructure and highlighted the importance of a structured repatriation plan for displaced Syrians.

Gerapetritis reaffirmed Greece’s support for a Syrian-led political transition towards a democratic government, inclusive of all ethnic and religious communities, ensuring sovereignty and territorial integrity.
