Romanian MEP: Support for Ukraine Strengthens EU Stability

Politics

Further support for Ukraine is crucial for strengthening the EU and maintaining global stability, Romanian MEP Daniel Buda (EPP) emphasized during a meeting with Romanian journalists on Tuesday, CE Report quotes Agerpres

Buda, Vice-President of the European Parliament's Agriculture Committee, highlighted the EU's financial support for Ukraine, including compensation for revenue losses. He also noted that Romania, which currently hosts around 135,000 Ukrainian refugees, has been reimbursed by the EU for related expenses.

Discussing regional infrastructure, Buda stressed the need for continued investment in EU border regions near Ukraine. He cited over €25 million allocated in the first stage for the Port of Constanta, a key transit hub.

Romania has played a vital role in grain exports, with about 70% of Ukraine's grain passing through the country. This has also helped prevent migration crises linked to food shortages, Buda noted.

The European Parliament is set to debate further support measures on Wednesday.
