Serbian President sets deadline for government formation

Politics

The Serbian government, if formed, must be established by March 19 or 20; otherwise, elections will likely be held in early May, said Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.

Speaking on Radio Television of Serbia (RTS), Vučić noted that the resignation of the government and Prime Minister Miloš Vučević must be announced no later than around February 17, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

He stated that this means the 30-day deadlines for forming a government or calling elections will begin from February 17, as reported by AA.

According to him, these are the two options defined by the Constitution, and it would primarily be preferable to attempt to form "a good government."

Vučić said he would continue to insist on dialogue with students protesting in Serbian cities following the collapse of a tent at the Novi Sad railway station on November 1, 2024, which resulted in 15 deaths and three serious injuries.

He also stated that he does not care who participates in the dialogue, as "every conversation is healing," adding that "they can talk to whomever they want."
