
Presidential Election Moves to Fourth Round as No Candidate Secures Majority
The third round of voting for the new president of the Republic on Thursday failed to secure the required 180 votes for any candidate. A fourth round will take place on Wednesday, February 12, where only an absolute majority of 151 votes is needed in the 300-member Parliament, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian
In the latest vote, ruling New Democracy's candidate Constantine Tassoulas received 160 votes, PASOK-Movement for Change candidate Tassos Giannitsis got 34, SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance’s Louka Katseli secured 40, and Niki party’s Constantine Kyriakou received 14. Additionally, 52 MPs abstained.
