Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa expressed his desire to transform relations with Türkiye into a strategic partnership during a joint news conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on Tuesday, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

Al-Sharaa emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in trade, joint investments, and infrastructure reconstruction to support economic recovery. He also invited Erdogan to visit Syria "at the earliest possible opportunity."

The Syrian president praised Türkiye’s role in supporting Syria’s transition, highlighting its commitment to security, stability, and economic cooperation. He acknowledged Türkiye’s engagement with the Syrian revolution and its efforts to uphold Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Al-Sharaa, who led anti-regime groups against Bashar al-Assad, was declared president last week. Assad, who ruled Syria for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia on Dec. 8, 2024, marking the end of the Baath Party’s decades-long rule.
