Greece Reaffirms Commitment to Trilateral Cooperation with Cyprus and Jordan

Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis emphasized Greece’s commitment to the Greece-Cyprus-Jordan Trilateral Cooperation Scheme during a meeting with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Al Safadi in Amman, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

Gerapetritis highlighted the excellent bilateral relations between Greece and Jordan, expressing determination to enhance cooperation in key sectors such as economy, trade, defense, energy, tourism, and culture. He praised Jordan as a stabilizing force in the region, underscoring the shared vision of security and stability.

He noted the importance of King Abdullah II's upcoming visit to the U.S. on February 11, emphasizing the need for regional integration and economic projects to ensure sustainable stability.

Regarding the situation in Gaza, Gerapetritis welcomed the ceasefire and hostage release agreement, calling it a positive step toward lasting stability. He stressed the urgency of humanitarian aid and praised efforts such as the reopening of the Rafah border crossing and Greece’s participation in Jordan’s airlift operations. He also reaffirmed Greece’s commitment to treating injured children from Gaza in Greek hospitals.

Addressing the broader Middle East peace process, Gerapetritis reiterated support for a two-state solution with full security guarantees for Israel, viewing it as essential for long-term regional stability. He emphasized Greece’s role in the EU in strengthening the Palestinian Authority’s financial and institutional capacity.

On Syria, he called for a smooth transition respecting national unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2254, and warned against foreign interference.

Gerapetritis reaffirmed Greece’s support for Jordan as a key regional partner, advocating for EU financial aid to Amman and promoting the EU-Jordan Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership signed on January 29. He commended Jordan’s role in maintaining multiculturalism and religious tolerance, assuring Greece’s backing as a UN Security Council member.
