Returning from Brussels, where he discussed collective defence with European leaders, Mitsotakis highlighted that he had long supported this approach, raising it at multiple EU summits and in a Financial Times article ahead of the recent informal summit.
He also recalled a joint letter with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk from May 2024, advocating for EU funding of a unified air defence system. With growing support for strengthening European defence, Mitsotakis emphasized the need for greater fiscal space to allow member states to invest in security without financial constraints.
“We want a strong Greece in Europe and a strong Europe for Greece. The time has come to act,” he concluded.
