Greek Defense Minister Warns of Expansionist Rhetoric in Turkiye

Greek Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias, voiced concerns over expansionist rhetoric in Turkiye during an interview with Fox News. He warned that certain forces in the country still dream of reviving the Ottoman Empire, posing challenges for NATO and regional stability, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

Dendias emphasized that while NATO is focused on external threats like Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, it must also address similar risks from within the alliance, particularly from Turkiye. He noted that some in Turkiye envision territorial claims over Greece, Syria, Iraq, Iran, and the Caucasus.

He also suggested that former U.S. President Donald Trump could play a unique role in advising the Turkish leadership, reminding them that adherence to international law is essential in the modern world.
