U.S., Canada’s top diplomats hold talks: Trade, borders, war in Ukraine

Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly and the newly-appointed U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed the war in Ukraine, border security, and trade during their first meeting.

The Canadian Foreign Minister reported this on X, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.

"Today, with Secretary Rubio, we discussed the ways in which we can continue to collaborate on border security, trade and energy security. We also talked about how we work together on addressing key geopolitical issues, including the crisis in the Middle East, Ukraine and Haiti," Joly wrote.

She noted that Canada and the U.S. are "strongest when we work together as partners and neighbours."

For his part, Rubio said the meeting focused on "collaboration on border security, energy, and confronting China’s economic practices".
