Russia Refuses to Deliver Natural Gas to Transnistrian Region, Moldova Responds

Politics

The Moldovan government has received official communication from Moscow stating that no Russian company will deliver natural gas to the left bank of the Dniester River. Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean confirmed this after Moldova's Ambassador to Russia, Lilian Darii, was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry and handed a protest note, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

Russia expressed dissatisfaction with Moldova's decision to publish a diplomatic note related to gas delivery discussions. The letter from Russia's Embassy in Chisinau informed Moldova that no agreements for gas deliveries to the Transnistrian region were in place.

“In essence, the Kremlin has stated it will not deliver natural gas. Russia must honor its commitments, respect Moldovan citizens, uphold independence and territorial sovereignty, and withdraw its troops,” Recean emphasized.

As of January 1, 2025, residents of the Transnistrian region have faced harsh conditions, living without heat or electricity after Gazprom ceased gas supplies despite an active contract.
