Trump Calls for Arab Nations to Relocate Gaza Residents Amid Ongoing Crisis
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested that Jordan and Egypt take in residents from Gaza, describing the current situation in the enclave as "a real mess." Speaking about potential solutions, Trump said he had discussed the issue with King Abdullah II of Jordan and planned to raise it with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency
"I'd like him (Jordan's king) to take people," Trump stated, adding, "I'd like Egypt to take people. You're talking about a million and a half people, and we just clean out that whole thing."
Trump characterized Gaza as "a demolition site," noting widespread destruction and loss of life. He proposed relocating Gazans to "a different location" where housing could be built, suggesting the move could be either temporary or permanent. He also remarked on Gaza's potential for redevelopment, calling it "a phenomenal location on the sea" with great potential for transformation.
The Biden administration opposes relocating Gaza residents outside the enclave, advocating instead for a two-state solution and a return of Gazans to their homes post-conflict.
Israel's military operations in Gaza have resulted in over 47,000 Palestinian deaths, primarily among women and children, and more than 111,000 injuries since October 7, 2023. A ceasefire implemented on January 19 aims to provide temporary relief, though Trump expressed doubts about its durability.
"It's not our war. It's their war," he said, emphasizing the need for rebuilding Gaza "in a different way."
