Türkiye is ready to assist in resolving the dispute between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), should both nations request it, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated during a joint press conference with Rwandan President Paul Kagame in Ankara, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

"We, as Türkiye, are ready to provide any support necessary to resolve this issue, contributing to stability and peace in the Great Lakes Region," Erdogan said, emphasizing the importance of "African solutions to African problems."

The conflict in eastern DRC involves M23 rebels, with accusations from Kinshasa that Rwanda supports the group—an allegation Kigali denies. Erdogan praised Rwanda's efforts to promote stability in East Africa and expressed Türkiye's support for Angola-led mediation efforts.

The meeting marked the first presidential-level visit between the two nations and set a milestone for deepening ties. Since opening embassies in 2013 and 2014, bilateral investments have reached nearly $500 million. Erdogan highlighted Türkiye's commitment to boosting trade and increasing Turkish investment in Rwanda's development.

President Kagame lauded Türkiye's contributions to infrastructure and emphasized Rwanda's openness to further collaboration with Turkish companies. He also praised Türkiye's mediation efforts in other African conflicts and noted the potential for similar assistance in resolving the DRC situation.

Both leaders expressed a shared vision for deeper cooperation, focusing on economic development and regional stability. Kagame also extended condolences over recent tragedies in Türkiye, highlighting solidarity and resilience.
