Moldovan Speaker Igor Grosu Urges Russia to Honor Gas Contract and End Transnistrian Crisis

Moldovan Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has called on Russia and Gazprom to resolve the ongoing crisis in the Transnistrian region by honoring their gas supply contract with Moldovagaz. Speaking at a press conference, Grosu emphasized that the solution lies in Gazprom resuming gas deliveries to the left bank of the Dniester River, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

“The solution is straightforward. Russia, through Gazprom, should honor the contract it signed with Moldovagaz, reserve capacities, allocate volumes, and resume gas deliveries. This is the only way to end the suffering of over 300,000 people in the Transnistrian region,” Grosu stated.

He criticized Gazprom for spreading misinformation instead of fulfilling its obligations, adding that Moldovan authorities have consistently sought solutions to the crisis and remain ready to provide necessary assistance.

Grosu also noted the possibility of supplying gas from alternative sources but highlighted the refusal of the Tiraspol authorities to accept gas from suppliers other than Gazprom. He attributed this refusal to decisions made in Moscow, not Tiraspol.

“It is important for the citizens on the left bank of the Dniester to understand that the decisions causing this crisis are made in the Kremlin, and the Tiraspol leaders align with Moscow, not the people who are suffering,” Grosu said.

Since January 1, 2025, residents of the Transnistrian region have faced harsh conditions, living without gas and enduring cold and darkness after Gazprom halted gas deliveries.
