Meloni and EU Council Chief discuss strengthening NATO's European pillar

Premier Giorgia Meloni has spoken on the phone with the President of the European Council Antonio Costa ahead of an informal summit on European defence scheduled to take place on February 3, according to a note issued by her office at Palazzo Chigi, CE Report quotes ANSA.

During the conversation, Meloni "stressed the need to concretely strengthen the European pillar of NATO, including on the front of the competitiveness of the European industry of the sector, through a full complementarity of EU initiatives and programmes in the defence area", said the note.

The two leaders "moreover shared the importance and urgency of working on new and more effective common tools to support the necessary significant investments", the note said.
