Olaf Scholz Criticizes Elon Musk Over Alleged Support for Far-Right Politics

Politics

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz criticized billionaire Elon Musk on Tuesday for his perceived support of far-right parties and movements in Europe. Speaking at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Scholz emphasized the importance of free speech but condemned the promotion of extremist ideologies, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

"We have freedom of speech in Europe and Germany, but we do not accept support for extreme-right positions," Scholz stated.

The remarks followed controversy surrounding a gesture made by Musk during a recent event celebrating former U.S. President Donald Trump. Musk’s arm gesture, which some compared to a Nazi salute, sparked criticism on social media. Musk denied the accusations on X (formerly Twitter), dismissing them as unfounded.

Earlier this month, Musk faced backlash from Germany’s political establishment after endorsing the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party ahead of the country’s February 23 general elections. German officials accused him of attempting to influence the election campaign through his public support for the AfD.
