The leaders of the European People's Party (EPP) gathered in Berlin on Friday and Saturday to address pressing issues, including EU competitiveness, immigration, transatlantic relations, and internal security. Among the attendees were Greek Prime Minister and New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

Hosted by EPP President Manfred Weber and CDU leader Friedrich Merz, the meeting also took place just weeks before Germany's elections and days ahead of the US presidential transition. Key topics included strengthening the EU's global position, fostering business competitiveness, streamlining bureaucracy, and addressing security and immigration challenges.

On the sidelines, Prime Minister Mitsotakis held private talks with Friedrich Merz and Roberta Metsola. Discussions with Merz focused on shared priorities such as economic growth, EU competitiveness, and Greece's successful efforts in digitizing its public sector. Mitsotakis also emphasized Greece's robust economic recovery.

During his meeting with Metsola, the prime minister exchanged views on upcoming legislative priorities and the challenges posed by rapid geopolitical changes.

Prime Minister Mitsotakis’s team underscored the importance of Germany aligning with the EPP and expressed concern over Germany's ongoing recession, noting that policies implemented in Greece over the past five years—such as tax reductions, fiscal discipline, and digital transformation—have yielded tangible results. These reforms were highlighted as a potential model for Germany in the CDU's election platform.
