Greece's Tourism Bill Aims to Enhance Quality and Sustainability
The Greek Ministry of Tourism's draft law on short-term rentals, tourism business regulations, and environmental classification of accommodations will be debated and voted on in the Hellenic Parliament this Thursday, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian
Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni highlighted the bill's goal to bolster Greece's standing as a premier travel destination. "Through coordinated efforts and innovative actions, Greece continues to lead by offering reliable, safe, and high-quality hospitality services," she told the Parliament's Standing Committee on Production and Trade.
Addressing short-term rentals, Kefalogianni noted the opposition's acknowledgment of the need for regulations but criticized their lack of support for the government's quality and safety initiatives. She emphasized that the new measures aim to enhance the overall tourism experience and have garnered positive feedback from international booking platforms.
The bill also prioritizes environmental responsibility, introducing provisions for classifying tourist accommodations based on sustainability and encouraging the use of seawater in swimming pools to conserve water resources—an approach already popular in the Mediterranean.
