Greek PM Proposes Energy Reforms to EU Commission President
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has sent a letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, suggesting key reforms in energy policy to address disparities across the EU, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian
Mitsotakis highlighted the need for more comparable electricity prices within the EU, noting stark differences between member states. He proposed creating a special task force to enhance cross-border energy flows and rethinking Europe’s power networks to bridge these gaps.
On natural gas, the Prime Minister advocated for securing competitive import prices and limiting excessive regulations on pollutant emissions. He recommended shifting to a more targeted approach with a focus on clear, singular goals rather than extensive regulatory measures.
Mitsotakis believes these proposals could bolster Europe’s competitiveness and looks forward to discussing them at the European Council. His letter also included a chart illustrating wholesale electricity price disparities across the EU.
