Serbia: sole European attendee at Maduro's inauguration

Politics

The President of the Serbian Parliament, Ana Brnabić, was the only representative of a European country at the inauguration of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, which was boycotted by a large number of world leaders. During her visit to Caracas, Brnabić also brought up the issue of Kosovo, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

The former Serbian Prime Minister arrived in Venezuela’s capital as the envoy of President Aleksandar Vučić, joining the company of “select” leaders from Cuba and Nicaragua.

On this occasion, she stated that Venezuela is a great friend of Serbia and emphasized that the country has not recognized Kosovo's independence.

The list of countries boycotting Maduro’s inauguration was notably longer than the list of attendees, including members of the European Union, the United States, and neighboring countries like Brazil and Colombia.

Representatives from Argentina and Chile, whose leaders have referred to Maduro as a dictator, were also absent from the event.

It should be noted that many boycotted the Venezuelan president's inauguration following assessments from various international organizations that Maduro had won the elections unfairly. The true winner is considered to be opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez.
