Politics

Moldovan President Maia Sandu held a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to address the worsening humanitarian situation in Moldova’s Transnistrian region. The crisis stems from Gazprom’s cessation of natural gas deliveries, violating contractual obligations, and leaving thousands without heating, electricity, or access to drinking water amidst cold weather and economic hardships, according to the presidential press service, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

The leaders agreed to work together to find solutions to mitigate the crisis, including utilizing alternative energy sources like coal to support the affected population.

They also discussed regional security and developments in Ukraine. President Sandu reaffirmed Moldova’s support for Ukraine’s defense of its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the broader peace in the region.
