Greek Business Growth Hits Record High in 2024

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis highlighted a major milestone for Greek business in his first Facebook post of the year. According to the General Commercial Register (GEMI), 64,262 new businesses were founded in 2024, marking an 11% increase from 2023 and a 50% surge compared to 2020. This represents the highest growth in recent years, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

Mitsotakis emphasized this as a testament to Greece's economic recovery. For every business that retires or restructures, three new ones emerge, while business closures have dropped by 11%. Key sectors such as retail, tourism, catering, and technical professions continue to thrive, with manufacturing and industry also seeing notable growth—a strategic priority for the government.

"This progress is no coincidence," Mitsotakis noted, crediting the stable investment environment fostered by the government and the resilience of Greek entrepreneurs.

Looking ahead, the prime minister expressed optimism for 2025, pledging to further improve infrastructure, cut bureaucracy, and create fertile ground for new ideas. "Our goal is to make 2025 just as successful," he concluded.
