PM Mitsotakis Highlights Support for Rural Greece and Youth Relocation Initiatives
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized the government’s commitment to revitalizing rural Greece in an interview with Ta Choriatika newspaper on Saturday. Speaking in Proti, near Serres, he discussed the pilot program encouraging Greeks to relocate to northern Evros, which he described as a model for rural regions nationwide, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian
“Our priority is addressing the challenges faced by all Greeks, especially those in the most isolated areas,” Mitsotakis stated.
Key initiatives include strengthening the primary sector, promoting small-scale tourism, and utilizing renewable energy to lower costs, with benefits directed toward local communities. Mitsotakis also highlighted education improvements, noting that smaller rural schools and digital tools enhance learning opportunities, ensuring equal access to technology for children across Greece.
The prime minister encouraged young people to consider village life, pointing out tax incentives for residents in villages with up to 1,500 people and expanded support for young farmers. “Farmers are the backbone of rural Greece, and we’re focusing on realistic economic activities that sustain village life,” he said.
Mitsotakis expressed optimism that technology and remote work will gradually make village living a viable alternative for more people.
