Greece to Establish Comprehensive Anti-Aircraft Dome by 2026

Politics

Deputy Defence Minister Yiannis Kefalogiannis announced plans for a comprehensive anti-aircraft defense system covering the entire Greek territory, from Evros to Kastellorizo, during an interview with SKAI TV. The "anti-aircraft dome," set for completion by 2026, will serve as a deterrent against threats from the air and sea, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

“This quadruple-layered dome will neutralize threats such as drones, ballistic missiles, and naval forces. Anything entering Greek territory will be intercepted,” Kefalogiannis stated.

Regarding Turkiye, he emphasized Greece’s commitment to defending its sovereignty without pursuing aggressive or expansionist policies, dismissing claims to the contrary as domestic propaganda in the neighboring country.

On potential Turkey-Syria agreements about exclusive economic zones (EEZs), Kefalogiannis reiterated that such agreements must adhere to international law, as demonstrated by Greece’s stance on the Turkish-Libyan deal, which he called "illegal."

He highlighted Greece's broader strategic interests in the Eastern Mediterranean, focusing on peace, stability, and energy security for both Greece and Europe, while affirming the strength of Greece’s diplomatic and military partnerships.

“Turkiye needs the EU more than the EU needs Turkiye,” he concluded.
