Romania's President Urges Political Unity Amid Complex Challenges

Politics

AGERPRES special correspondent Oana Ghita reports: Romanian President Klaus Iohannis emphasized the urgent need to avoid an extended government and parliamentary crisis during remarks on Thursday, amid mounting domestic and international challenges, CE Report quotes Agerpres

"Romania is in a very complicated situation," Iohannis said, citing the ongoing war at the border, hybrid attacks that disrupted the presidential elections, and political instability across the European Union.

The president's comments followed Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu's announcement that the Social Democratic Party (PSD) would withdraw from discussions on forming a new government and support a right-wing government in Parliament.

Iohannis called on political leaders to set aside petty quarrels and focus on quickly forming a government capable of addressing urgent priorities, including preparing the national budget and organizing next year's presidential elections.

"Romania and its citizens must come first," he stressed, urging leaders to act as statesmen and prioritize stability and governance.

He also reminded that the current interim government has limited powers and cannot address critical legislative and financial measures.

"The new government must urgently take on these responsibilities to ensure Romania's stability and progress," Iohannis concluded.
