The meeting included Bulgaria's caretaker Ministers of Energy, Transport, Communications, and Defense. Radev commended Hungary's successful presidency of the EU Council and expressed gratitude for its continued support of Bulgaria's accession to the Schengen Area. Both leaders agreed that Bulgaria and Romania joining Schengen would benefit the regional business environment, economic exchange, and tourism.

"Hungary is a partner with whom we share deep historical ties and friendly relations, forming a strong basis for enhanced cooperation," said Radev. Bilateral trade between the two nations exceeds €2 billion, with mutual interest in further growth.

Discussions also focused on expanding supply chains disrupted by the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, as well as cooperation in transport and logistics. Radev outlined Bulgaria's efforts to boost capacity at the Kapitan Andreevo-Kapikule border checkpoint, while Szijjártó expressed Hungary's interest in investing in Bulgarian Black Sea ports like Varna and Burgas.

Both sides emphasized Europe's need for secure and stable energy supplies amid ongoing crises. Radev highlighted Bulgaria's partnerships for increased transmission of natural gas and renewable energy to Europe, advancing energy diversification and regional security.

Defense cooperation was identified as a promising area, with opportunities for joint production and export leveraging the strong traditions of both countries' defense industries.
