Romania to Join Schengen Area Fully in 2025

Romania's long-awaited accession to the Schengen Area was confirmed on Thursday, marking a significant milestone for the country's citizens and economy, according to Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu, CE Report quotes Agerpres

"Romania is a full Schengen member! Land border controls will be lifted starting January 1, 2025—this long-anticipated decision benefits both our citizens and the economy. Our persistent efforts have been recognized and rewarded," Odobescu announced on the X platform.

She extended her gratitude to colleagues from the ministries of foreign affairs and interior, emphasizing their professionalism and dedication in achieving this national objective.

The decision was made during a meeting of EU interior ministers in the Justice and Home Affairs Council. The Council of the European Union confirmed that internal land border controls between Bulgaria and Romania will end on January 1, 2025, in a press release on its official website.
