Pro-European Parties in Romania Commit to Joint Governance Program and Presidential Candidate

Romania's pro-European parties – the Social Democratic Party (PSD), National Liberal Party (PNL), Save Romania Union (USR), Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR), and the Parliamentary Group of National Minorities – announced their intention to form a united governance program and support a common candidate for the upcoming presidential elections. The declaration came after their first round of political consultations on Tuesday evening, CE Report quotes Agerpres

In a joint statement, the parties emphasized their commitment to creating a pro-European parliamentary majority and government, as well as endorsing a shared pro-European presidential candidate. Discussions focused on accelerating the formation of a government, advancing reforms, and expediting projects under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

The parties also agreed to draft a unified governance program prioritizing development, transparency, and reducing public sector inefficiencies. A Joint Committee and working groups will be established to tackle key areas. "This is a decisive moment for Romania, requiring profound change," the statement read, underlining their shared responsibility to rebuild public trust through good governance and transparency.
