Erdogan Stresses Syria's Territorial Integrity Amid Assad Regime Collapse

Politics

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized the need to preserve Syria’s territorial integrity following the rapid collapse of the Assad regime, which had ruled for decades, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

Speaking after a Cabinet meeting in Ankara, Erdogan declared, “Syria’s territorial integrity must absolutely be protected.” He criticized terror groups like the PKK and Daesh/ISIS for exploiting Syria’s instability, reiterating that Türkiye considers them enemies, not interlocutors.

Erdogan welcomed the liberation of Tel Rifaat and Manbij, cities long occupied by terrorist groups, and accused the Assad regime of ignoring Türkiye’s calls for dialogue. He highlighted the devastating impact of Syria’s 13-year civil war, including nearly one million deaths and 12 million displaced.

Marking the end of a "dark era," Erdogan expressed hope for brighter days in Syria, affirming Türkiye’s commitment to anti-terror operations solely for national security, not territorial ambitions. He also highlighted Türkiye's support for millions of displaced Syrians, framing it as a moral duty.

The collapse of the Baath Party regime was sealed on Sunday as Bashar Assad fled to Russia, ending nearly 25 years in power and a party rule that began in 1963.
