Poland Accuses Belarus and Russia of Border Crisis
Poland has accused Minsk and Moscow of orchestrating a migration crisis by inviting migrants from North Africa and the Middle East to cross into the EU illegally, aiming to destabilize the region. Poland's Defense Minister, Tomasz Siemoniak, called the actions a "hostile" move against both Poland and the EU, exploiting vulnerable migrants who pay traffickers for the journey, CE Report quotes PAP
So far, Poland has invested EUR 610 million in border protection, deploying 11,000 law enforcement officers and soldiers. The EU has allocated EUR 50 million to support Poland’s efforts. EU Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson, emphasized that the migration issue affects the entire bloc, as it involves external EU borders, and stressed the EU’s right to control its borders, rejecting foreign influence from Lukashenko or Putin.
Poland has also built a steel fence with electronic surveillance to prevent illegal crossings.
