Poland Passes Key Defence Investment Bill
Poland has passed a landmark bill aimed at streamlining defence investments, marking a significant shift in the country's approach to security. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, described the bill as a "revolution" that will transform the way defence projects are handled, CE Report quotes PAP
The new legislation divides investments into key and strategic categories, with the latter now authorized by provincial governors, simplifying the decision-making process. Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that the bill would eliminate the long delays previously experienced in obtaining permits, which could take years. "We are done with that," he stated.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk also praised the bill, highlighting that it will allow for quicker decisions in matters crucial to national security, including the Shield East programme. This initiative involves building fortifications and military infrastructure along Poland’s borders with Russia and Belarus, spanning approximately 800 km. The programme will also develop reconnaissance systems, anti-drone measures, and logistics hubs, ensuring Poland's defence readiness.
