Energy Consumption in Moldova: Updates on Power Supply and Import Balance

Moldova

On January 5-6, 2025, electricity consumption on the right bank of the Dniester was fully met without activating breakdown contracts or unintentional flows. The power sources included:

  • Termoelectrica: 32.35%
  • CET-Nord: 5.12%
  • NHE Costești: 1.21%
  • Renewable energy: 11.83%
  • Electricity imports (MD/RO): 49.49%

The available commercial capacity for importing electricity from Romania through the ENTSO-E network was sufficient to meet the forecasted demand. An additional 364 MW allocation further ensured energy security, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

On the left bank of the Dniester, the Cuciurgan power plant (MGRES) is using alternative fuel (coal) to adjust production, with reserves expected to last 30-50 days. Due to high consumption, scheduled power cuts continue in Copanca and Varnitsa between 17:00-23:00, as per the approved Transnistrian schedule.

Gas pressures in transportation networks managed by Vestmoldtransgaz Ltd. remain within functional parameters, and natural gas reserves are sufficient with smooth delivery flows.

Authorities encourage citizens to use electricity wisely, particularly during peak hours, and those affected by outages are advised to contact local suppliers for solutions. The government continues to monitor the energy situation and provide timely updates.
