Specialists have issued key recommendations for selecting and using winter decorations, emphasizing safe purchasing, installation, and usage practices to prevent incidents, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

Tatiana Frunza, head of the Consumer and Business Environment Information Department at the State Inspectorate for Non-Food Products and Consumer Protection (ISSPNPC), highlighted the importance of safety. She advised against handling garlands while connected to the power supply and warned against plugging in decorations while still packed.

Consumers are entitled to request a declaration of conformity from sellers to ensure the product meets safety standards. If unavailable, the product may be deemed non-compliant, potentially leading to fines of up to 6,900 lei for sellers.

Experts also recommend purchasing electric decorations only from authorized retailers. If defects arise during the warranty period, consumers have the right to request repairs or replacements. Complaints about uncooperative sellers can be submitted to the ISSPNPC.

Liliana Pușcașu, a press officer for the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, urged caution when placing decorations. “Keep them away from fire sources like stoves and fireplaces, unplug garlands at night, and ensure children cannot access electrical sockets,” Pușcașu advised.

In emergencies, citizens should call 112 for assistance.
