Moldova Faces Challenges and Pushes for European Integration, Says Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu
In an interview concluding the parliamentary session, Moldova’s Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu reflected on legislative achievements and outlined priorities for the coming year. Grosu highlighted the parliament’s efforts, noting that MPs introduced their own initiatives while supporting government proposals. Despite challenges, including long hours and heated debates, he emphasized the need for lawmakers to rest and return energized for the next session.
The speaker stressed the urgency of aligning Moldova’s legislation with European standards, urging a faster legislative process and greater involvement from the opposition to build a European Moldova. Key priorities for the next session include reforms in electoral donations and enhanced powers for prosecutors and investigators. Grosu also called on anti-corruption institutions to deliver results despite resource constraints.
Addressing misinformation from Russia, Grosu reassured citizens on both banks of the Dniester of the state’s protection, criticizing the continued illegal presence of Russian troops. He also tackled issues like energy security, noting plans to source electricity from Romania or Europe to counter Russian gas blackmail.
Reaffirming Moldova’s European development path, Grosu encouraged unity and pride in the country’s progress despite limited resources and significant challenges. “Let’s celebrate our small victories and not allow division,” he concluded.
