Moldova Condemns Russian Missile Attacks Targeting Ukraine and Violating Its Airspace

Moldova

Moldovan President Maia Sandu has denounced Russia's Christmas morning attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which included a missile crossing into Moldova's airspace. "While our countries are celebrating Christmas, Kremlin chooses destruction, targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure and violating Moldova's airspace with a missile. Moldova condemns these acts and stands in full solidarity with Ukraine," Sandu stated, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

The missile, observed by Moldovan Border Police near the Iampol-Cosăuți area, crossed Moldova's airspace at Otaci-Moghilev Podilsk before exiting into Romania near Dorohoi-Herța. Despite the incident, Moldova's electricity grid remains stable, with no reported disruptions in the power system connected to Ukraine.

Moldelectrica, Moldova’s electricity transmission operator, has urged citizens to optimize electricity use during peak hours (09:00–11:00 and 17:00–19:00) to support grid stability. Recommendations include reducing simultaneous use of energy-intensive appliances, shifting high-consumption activities to off-peak times, and prioritizing energy-efficient devices.

These attacks underscore regional energy security challenges as Moldova reaffirms its support for Ukraine.
