Moldova Awards 2024 National Prize to Eight Outstanding Personalities

Prime Minister Dorin Recean presented the 2024 National Prize to eight distinguished individuals during a government-led ceremony. The laureates received diplomas, medals, and a monetary prize of 100,000 lei, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

PM Recean emphasized that the National Prize symbolizes society’s recognition of individuals who bring significant value to Moldova, noting that in the context of European integration, Moldova contributes with innovation, creativity, and achievements in various fields. “In these challenging times, it is a privilege to celebrate the talent, hard work, and accomplishments of those who excel in science, culture, sports, and other areas,” he said.

He also thanked the evaluation commission, expressing hope for continued strong competition in future editions, highlighting Moldova’s wealth of talent and innovation.

2024 National Prize Laureates:

  • Maria Mocanu – Singer, folklorist, journalist, People’s Artist: Recognized for promoting national values.
  • Sergiu Galben – Fine artist: Honored for exceptional contributions to fine arts and valuable creations.
  • Nicolae Dohotaru – Director of the Maria Biesu National Opera and Ballet Theatre: Awarded for achievements in national culture, artistic promotion, and cultural management.
  • Ion Ciutac – Surgeon and university lecturer: Recognized for exceptional achievements in emergency surgery.
  • Denis Nica – Researcher and university lecturer: Honored for advancing the fundamental theory of thermal transport in nanostructures.
  • Nicolae Negru – Writer, playwright, and journalist: Awarded for the depth and national impact of his literary and journalistic works, including O progenitură dușmană (A Hostile Offspring).
  • Serghei Tarnovschi – Olympic medalist and world champion: Celebrated for his contributions to sports and his numerous international accolades.
  • Sergiu Cumatrenco – Film producer and distributor: Recognized for promoting Moldovan cinematographic art.

The National Prize is an annual honor for individuals contributing to the development of science, education, economy, sports, and the promotion of national values.
