Moldova’s Government Pledges Continued Efforts to Raise Teachers’ Salaries

Moldova

Prime Minister Dorin Recean has assured that the government will continue seeking financial resources to further increase teachers' salaries, despite the country's challenging economic situation. He emphasized that the government has already allocated the maximum possible funds under the current circumstances, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

"I agree that teachers and professors deserve higher salaries. It is necessary, but we must work within the realities we face," Recean stated.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that salaries remain insufficient in other sectors as well, reaffirming the government's commitment to finding solutions for all citizens. "We have allocated the maximum possible for education and will continue identifying additional resources, including for salary increases in this sector," he said.

Recean also highlighted the broader economic challenges Moldova faces, compounded by regional and global factors. Nevertheless, he noted, the government managed to secure resources to support citizens.

The statement comes in response to demands from trade unions for a 35% increase in teachers' salaries. The government has proposed a 9% increase in the 2025 state budget for the education sector.
