Kosovo's Kurti Decries Vote as Unprecedented Assault

Kosovo

Following the failure to pass the report of the Commission for the Verification of Mandates and Quorum, the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, described it as an “institutional internal attack against the Republic of Kosovo and democratic elections.”

On Tuesday, 52 MPs voted in favor, 46 against, and 11 abstained, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) voted against the report of the temporary commission.

Meanwhile, MPs from Vetëvendosje and Nisma voted in favor of the report.

Kurti said that opposition MPs “rebelled against the swearing-in of MPs and the constitution of the ninth legislature.”

“Opposition MPs from PDK, LDK, Lista Serbe, and AAK today voted against the report of the commission for the verification of mandates. In a purely formal and technical vote based on documentation from the Central Election Commission (CEC), they rebelled against the swearing-in of MPs and the constitution of the ninth legislature. This is an institutional internal attack against the Republic of Kosovo and democratic elections. This is an unprecedented situation in our state and far beyond,” Kurti wrote on Facebook.

“We govern properly and fairly, while they disgrace themselves and make bad news for our state. It’s well-known that they’re against the government and the Republic, but today we learned they’re even against themselves,” Kurti added.
