Doctors' unions to stage protest

Italy's doctors' trade unions said that they are joining forces for a demonstration in Rome in May to call for more investment in health care, CE Report quotes ANSA.

The slogan of the demonstration will be 'Invest in doctors to save the National Health Service' said the Anaao Assomed, Cimo-Fesmed, Als, Gmi, Fimmg, Fimp, Sumai, Smi, Snami and Ftm unions.

Italian doctors are increasingly dissatisfied with the insufficient resources allocated by the latest budget law and are considering a strike, Italian federation of doctors' guilds (FNOMCEO) head Filippo Anelli said earlier this month.

Last November, unions representing Italian doctors and nurses staged a nationwide 24-hour strike to protest against the government's 2025 budget bill which they said allocated "insufficient resources" to pay rises to staff and complain about an overall lack of investment in healthcare funding.

The government says 6.4 billion euros in extra funding is being pumped into healthcare over the next two years, taking national health funding up to all-time highs of 136.48 billion euros in 2025 and 140.6 billion in 2026.
